UCR

Content Management System

Background

Choosing a Content Management System

The UCR Content Management System initiative began in response to the evident need for a system to make attractive, up-to-date web sites the standard campus-wide. In exploring possible solutions, the campus kept in mind a number of criteria:

  • There must be built-in process management tools that allow for preview before publishing and an approval schema.
  • The system must include the ability to supply approved templates featuring easy-to-use navigation and a consistent style to enable a smooth transition to UCR's branding strategy.
  • There must be a WYSIWYG* editor with a well-developed and intuitive user interface.
  • The vendor must provide responsive support.
  • The system must allow for granular administration and integration with the existing Enterprise Access Control System and Central Authentication Services.
  • The system must integrate easily with existing and future web strategies.

UCR has acquired and deployed a system that meets the objectives defined above. Vendor software has been purchased, has been integrated in the campus single sign-on and Enterprise Accountability System, and has indeed already been deployed in the development of a number of campus sites.
